The Latest from the MinneMinds Coalition

On Wednesday, September 18th, members of Congress received a  compilation of stories from around the country on how important and influential quality early childhood programs are for children and families. Thank you for the stories you sent! Watch Congress play Chutes ‘n’ Ladders and hula hoop on the Capitol Lawn!
Also, 35 CEOs from across the country, including Minnesota’s Doug Baker (Ecolab), signed onto a statement stating how important investing in quality early childhood programs is to maintaining our competitiveness and building our future workforce. The statement was organized by Ready Nation: http://www.readynation.org/uploads/db_files/ReadyNation%20Business%20Statement%20Final46.pdf
In a big week for early childhood on the national stage, James Heckman, professor of economics at the University of Chicago, published an article in the New York Times series on inequality in the United States. The article shares again what our own economists in Minnesota have been stating for years, that investing in early childhood programing is not only a great public investment but one of the most effective ways to close inequality gaps in many areas.
